Wondering if the Suburbia Collector's Edition Kickstarter extras are worth the cost? We break down what you get and who should buy.
Quick answer
The Suburbia Collector's Edition Kickstarter extras are worth the $60.97 if you want premium components like wooden markers and metal coins for your 2nd Edition game, but skip them if you only play casually or don't care about upgraded materials.
What you get for the price
For $60.97 (catalog comparison price $99.95), this set includes wooden interactive markers, metal coins, 11 Nightlife Promo Tiles, and 15 extra color sets. The wooden markers cover 16 restaurants, 15 briefcases, 11 education, 10 airports, 9 skyscrapers, and 2 car dealerships. The metal coins come in $1 x 30, $5 x 20, and $10 x 20 denominations.
Who benefits most
If you play Suburbia frequently or host game nights, the tactile upgrade from cardboard to wood and metal enhances the experience. The 15 extra color sets also give you variety beyond the retail version. However, if you play once a year or prefer the standard components, the cost may not justify the upgrade.
Diagnosis: Should you buy the Suburbia Collector's Edition Extras?
- Symptom: You want to upgrade your Suburbia 2nd Edition with premium components but aren't sure if the cost is justified.
- Likely cause: The standard game uses cardboard tokens and plastic coins, which can feel flimsy during repeated play.
- Corrective action: Buy the Collector's Edition extras if you play at least once a month and value tactile upgrades. The wooden markers and metal coins add heft and durability. Check that your game is Suburbia 2nd Edition, as the extras are designed for that version.
- Stop or choose another option: Skip this purchase if you play rarely, prefer the original cardboard components, or would rather spend the $60 on a new game.
